Still Searching...

Hm... I've been looking for a new blog template, but I can't seem to find one I like. Something girly, but black on blue, or purple on blue.

On to the Final Draft!

I printed up my latest short story this afternoon and gave it a quick read through. I'm pleased with it overall, although it's going to need a bit of restructuring in Chapter 3 as well as general editing. I'll be starting on that Monday. I'm going to take Sunday off to spend with Jay before kicking off a week-long editing frenzy. Oh, god, editing makes me nuts! Alas, that's part of it. *g*

Let the Editing Begin

I finished the main draft of Bonding Experience today. Hubby watched the baby for a few hours while I took off to the library with the laptop. I gotta tell you... it is a truly bizarre experience to write a love scene in the middle of your local library. I had this fear of someone looking over my shoulder. LOL!

Now that I'm finished, I can take a deep breath and move on. After I buff and polish B.E. I'm going to pick up Prince of Thorns (my In the Rune's series story) and finish it. I'm only about a quarter of the way there with it.

Well, I'm off for now. I've got things to do before CP's chat tonight!

It Ain't Easy

So you want to write erotic romance... I wish someone would have told me before I started that my parents were going to go berserk. Yes, really. Not that it would have stopped me, mind you. I'm thirty. I do what I want to do. Even so, it might have helped to be prepared for their reactions. I didn't consider it when I started. Of course, before getting published, my mom would just nod her head when I'd talk to her about a story I was working on and her eyes would go all cloudy. Writing is a wasteful pasttime in her opinion. When I finally told her what I was writing, the hysterics began.

I expected as much from my mother, but my dad has always been fairly (not completely! but about 65%) laid back, so I didn't think it was going to be an issue with him. Some part of me though he'd say "Are you getting paid?" And when I answered yes--even if it was a miniscule amount of money, he'd get over it and go on. Apparently I was wrong.

It seems I have been the topic of much discussion between my parents. So much so, I am now contemplating moving. Dad went to my hubby yesterday--who works on the same jobsite, and asked him for the nitty gritty on my books. Now, let me just say that my hubby has never actually read my books--just the kinky parts out of one story-- and let me tell you... The parts he read put his boxers in a major twist. He was one upset guy...who, believe it or not, was thoroughly jealous of the hero in my story. *_* He moped and stomped around the house for two days after secretly reading my ms, and when he finally got around to talking to me about it.

Anyway, so my dad went to Hubby. Not exactly an unbiased source. I'm sure hubby made it sound like I write pure porn--not erotic romance. I do know one of the questions was if writing about sex was one of my writing goals at the outset. And that my dad had tears in his eyes after hubby talked to him. It's clear he thoroughly did not approve.

Going through all this, I feel so drained. Emotionally, physically, creatively drained. It's like wading through sand, battling your family. The only supportive folks I find, are those would-be readers and others who also write, or are hoping to eventually publish, erotic romance. Hubby says he's supportive, but I don't call having my work constantly referred to as chick porn necessarily supportive. That he can deal with it--which he might as well, because I'm going to do it regardless--is the only big plus.

Anyway, I wanted to put this here, on my writing blog because I'm quite sure I'm not alone in this. It's just one of those things when you want something, you just have stop listening to what everyone (other than your editor!) is saying and move on.

Hotel Louisiana Part Deux

It's just after 9 AM. Boo is waiting for the pool to open, and Rune is exploring the hotel room. He's bonked his forehead on the furniture twice, but there's no stopping him. He is wiggly, squiggly! There's too much to get into, and too little time. We'll be going back home this afternoon. I'm so glad I thoroughly cleaned the house before we left! :D

Hotel Louisiana

Hubby, the kids, and I are in S. Louisiana right now. We decided last minute to pack up and take a trip back to hubby's home town. I'm in a Holiday Inn Express right now--about to catch up on some work while the guys are out exploring. Luckily they have wireless here. I'm loving the new notebook, btw.

Anyway, this makes the second long trip in three weeks pour moi. And actually we would have gone farther than our own back yard (three hour drive, but our La back yard anyway) but we changed our mind last minute. Ah well, Oklahoma can wait. That will be a good destination for next month. Maybe then we can rent a cabin in advance and make more of a trip out of it.

Well, off to do some writing while I've got the hotel room to myself. Whee! All I need now is another latte, and some sexy Cajun hottie to talk to while sunning out by the pool. *bliss*

Four Friends You Think Will Respond

Back From Texas and Fake Fish

I took my youngest to Texas yesterday. My mom and I made the round trip. It was a three hour drive one way, but we wanted to bring the baby to my grandmothers so she could see him for the first time. Rune had a blast--at least while he was out of the truck. He danced and played and crawled under chairs. I let him have at it, and he only started to wear down about twenty minutes before we left to come back home.

Back home, my oldest was invited to a party, and we got back right as DH returned from dropping him off. Come to find out, he was the only boy out of his class invited to this party. Nothing but a bunch of girls and the birthday girl's cousin (a boy). Hubby and I thought this was quite funny. Boo had a great time, but still denies that at least on of the girls must have a crush on him. :)

And now, an announcement...
The fish on the my laptop's screensaver have now been officially named. Boo has named them: Fred, George, Jenny, Ron, and Harry. Can you figure out where those names come from? lol

Love, Lust and Other Oddities

I've joined a newsletter with other Cobblestone Press Authors, and I gotta tell ya... This thing looks like fun! Apparently there is soon to be a kink-o-meter related to certain posts. I can't wait to see what more comes of this.

I'm also still updating the ol' blog here. I have more linkage to sort through--and if you're a CP author and I haven't added you yet--Don't worry at all! I just haven't got to it yet. You'll definitely be on here shortly. I just got my new laptop yesterday, and I swear every little farting thing has to be registered to use it. *_* Seriously, who knew?

Blog Construction

Things may look a little wacky for a week or so here at my blog. I've been inspired by Lori's blogging fabulousness to clean my own house. :D

This is actually well overdue. A few days ago, I was going through my links to clear out the dead ones and I noticed that about 90% of the people I'd linked to had no return link to me. *cry* That's a pretty long list. I've started clearing them out a few at a time to make room for those that are linked to me, and for helping advertise fellow Cobblestone Press authors and to promote our various blogs. It's only fair. ;) It's going to be a slow process, but I'm on it!

If you happen to drop by and see you've been dropped, or you're not on the list but would like to be--leave a comment. I will happily add you! All I ask in return is a link back.

Bonding Experience

Well, the rough draft for Bonding Experience is nearly finished. Yay! *dance, dance* It's my sequel to Crossing Borders. It's a miracle that I've gotten this far with it. I've been having mega computer problems lately, and hubby and I can't figure out what's up. We've run every scan known to man, plus we've defragged the comp to no avail. I'll be so glad when my new laptop arrives!

Anyway, I'm going to print up what I have tomorrow and see where I need to add additional scenes. I know there's three I want to add. I have to say I love the characters in this story. I've grown quite attatched to them... more so than usual. I'm thinking they may have to cameo in another story down the line. :)

Release Date Announced!

It's official! Crossing Borders has been scheduled for release on June 23rd, 2006!
